A couple of years ago I interviewed a young artist called Jack Frame for Homes & Interiors Scotland magazine. Jack had made a big impression with his degree show at Glasgow School of Art in 2007 when his work literally flew off the walls. He graduated in Painting and Printmaking and one of his many admirers from his degree show is Muriel Gray, who attended GSA herself. She interviewed Jack last year for a BBC documentary on The Glasgow Boys.
I was really impressed with Jack's total immersion in his art. He has quite an old head on young shoulders and reads voraciously - just as much as he draws and paints.
Time after time in his work, he revisits the subject of trees as a metaphor for many aspects of life and it has almost become a trademark. But as a rifle through his studio and his sketchbooks showed me, here is a thoughtful draughtsman with a hugely considered approach to his art.
I have a wee etching in my house of his of a young boy and I every time I see if, I see and feel something different.
Jack has made the difficult transition from art school to working artist and I think he's one of Scotland's brightest young talents.
He has a solo show coming up at scotlandart.com’s Glasgow gallery in Bath Street, previewing on Thursday 17th February, 2011.
